Family Health Focus

As the cold winter months settle in, it’s easy to get stuck inside. Keeping your body moving is essential for overall health, especially your nervous system! Gentle movements like stretching and walking can help ease tension and support your body.

Tips for winter-friendly movement:

  • Stretch daily to release tension in your back and shoulders.
  • Walk indoors (malls, home treadmill) to keep your body active.
  • Do gentle yoga to relieve stress and improve flexibility.

Your body needs movement to stay healthy, even in winter!

There are many great places to go for a walk or hike in Anoka County – even in the winter! Some popular options to get outside and get moving include:

Tantalize Your Tastebuds

Recipe of the Month: Vanilla Coconut Protein Balls

Jenna shares another amazing recipe! This time it’s a hormone-healthy snack. The healthy fats from the cashews, coconut, and nut butter help balance your blood sugars and give you steady energy.

Here’s what is inside:

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups dates
  • 2 cups roasted & salted or raw cashews
  • 5 cup unsweetened coconut
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • ¼ – ½ tsp salt depending on how salty your cashews are
  • 2 Tbsp. nut butter

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Grab a glass bowl, and put your dates and cashews in. Heat up about 2.5 cups of water until it’s almost to a boil, and pour over dates and cashews. The water should cover all the dates/cashews. Let them soak for about 10 minutes. The dates and cashews should be SUPER soft before you blend them.
  • While waiting, grab your blender or food processor and add the coconut flakes. Blend into tiny pieces and transfer to a medium/large bowl.
  • After 10 minutes has passed, drain water.
  • Add the cashews to the blender or food processor. Blend/grate the cashews into small pieces.
  • Add the vanilla, salt, and nut butter & mix.
  • Pit the dates and add to the cashew mixture in the blender/processor. Be patient with this, you’ll need to scrape the sides and do a little manual labor to get this fully blended. It’s so worth it though!!
  • Depending on the size of your blender/processor, you may need to transfer some of the mixture to the bowl your coconut flakes were in.
  • Once it’s fully combined, put all the mixture in that medium/large bowl. Refrigerate for at least 20-30 minutes.
  • Grab a small cookie scoop, roll in your freshly washed hands, and ta-da! Refrigerate up to 5-7 days, freeze for about 2-3 months.

P.S. (These are always a HUGE hit at potlucks!)
